Vernacular style

A native or local style, usually conservative in comparison to that of metropolitan centres. Classical forms are generally absent. A style particularly associated with cottages and small houses, and often conditioned by the use of local building materials. Vernacular building is folk building to be distinguished from guild building. (Harris, 1966)
