A medium red paint pigment composed of iron oxide; manufactured in the 20th century by roasting hydrated iron oxide mill scale from partially neutralized steel mill waste acid; lower grades used for painting barns; higher grades have very stable color. See also Indian red. (Bucher, 1996)
