The Annunciation to the Shepherds

The shepherds keeping watch over their flock by night receive from an angel an announcement of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. They hear a multitude of the heavenly host praising God. Corresponds with the Office of Prime, for 6 a.m., or the third of the eight “Hours of the Virgin” (or Offices). (Thorpe, 1976)
