Same as collar beam. Also known as strutting beam. 2. A horizontal member of a truss that braces other members. See also straining arch, straining beam, straining sill. 3. A trussed girder member that is under compression; may be horizontal, such as the top member when trussed below, or diagonal when trussed above. See also strut. (Bucher, 1996)
