Short tapered vertical stone supporting a rough stone disc sloping all round its top to throw the water off, so resembling a toadstool, forming one of several uprights on which a timber-framed structure rests. Called stackstand, it protected the building from damp and vermin. (Curl & Wilson, 2016)
