One of the Four Evangelists, whose symbol is a lion (often with wings). St. Mark’s Gospel was thought to emphasize Jesus’ kingship, and so he was ascribed the lion, king of the beasts. His gospel also opens with St. John’s voice ‘crying in the wilderness’, like the roar of a lion. Photo from St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Oyster Bay, New York, 2022. (Taylor, 2003)
