A Babylonian queen. Diodorus tells us that a goddess called Derceto was worshipped at Ascalon in Syria. She lived in a lake near the town and had a woman’s face with the body of a fish. Aphrodite made Derceto fall in love with Caystrus, a Syrian, by whom she had a daughter… (Grimal, 1990)
