St. Clare of Assisi was born in Assisi, Duchy of Spoleto, Holy Roman Empire in 1194. Born into a family of nobility, she heard the preaching of St. Francis and left her life of privilege to live in poverty and simplicity. Both a friend of and collaborator with St. Francis, she founded the religious community known as the Poor Clares. She lived as a cloistered religious for over 50 years and died in 1253. She is co-patroness of the Franciscan Family. (Kremer, 2026)
