The grading of structural lumber by a machine that flexes a test specimen, measures its resistance to bending, calculates its modulus of elasticity, and electronically computes the appropriate stress grade, taking into account such factors as the effects of knots, slope of grain, growth rate, density, and moisture content. Also called machine stress-rating. (Ching, 1995)
