French for “small moon.” A semi-circular area formed by an arch. Lunettes can either be windows or decorated areas at the end of a barrel vault. The windows were popular in Neo-classical and Classic Revival architecture in the 18th and 19th centuries. Photo from New York City, New York, 2018. (Kremer, 2021)
