The hero after whom India was named. He was the son of Earth, who was said to have been kileld by Zeus. Another legend made him the husband of the Nymph Calauria, and the father of the River Ganges. 2. A king of Scythia who invented silver, whose use was said to have been introduced into Greece by Erechtheus. (Grimal, 1990)
