A sloped end of a wood joist that rests in a pocket in a masonry wall; slopes down toward the end of the joist so that the bottom extends to the back of the pocket and the top is at the inside face of the wall; allows the joist to fall out of the pocket without pullling down the wall if the joist collapses during a fire. (Bucher, 1996)
