Architecture that freely uses earlier European styles; may use elements fo a particular style in ways not found in the original or combine features of several styles in a single building; partially a reaction to those architects who believed in a single universal style such as Greek Revival or Gothic Revival; common for large public buildings mid-19th century to late 19th century.
