How an organization handles events or interactions that could potentially damage its reputation; requires social media managers to respond quickly and follow a predetermined plan to de-escalate a problem at hand while balancing First Amendment rights; inappropriate posts by someone inside the organization or a social media boycott against the organization’s brand may qualify as a social media crisis; however, angry comments from the community do not.
