The ratio between the decrement of length, area of section, or volume and the original length, area of section, or volume. For temperature change, it is the same as the “Coefficient of Expansion.” In hydraulics, it is the ratio between the area of the contracted section of a water-jet issuing from an orifice and the area of the orifice.
