The cleaning of sandstone has been a hugely controversial issue over recent years and inappropriate cleaning can cause major building problems. Sandstone tends to be cleaned either chemically or abrasively, both of which are inherently problematic. Limestones are easier as they can simply washed with water. (Siker, 2018)
