In classical architecture, the bottom band of an entablature, located immediately above the column capitals. Also known as epistyle. See also jack architrave, classical orders. 2. A molded trim band surrounding the sides and top of a rectangular wall opening; types include banded architrave, circular architrave, double architrave, kneed architrave, shouldered architrave, single architrave. Also known as architrave door, architrave trim, facing. See also architrave-cornice. 3. A large wood beam bearing directly on the column capitals. Also known as master-beam, reason-piece, summer. 4.
