Adonis
A Greek hero of Syrian origin, Adonis is mentioned by Hesiod, who considers him the son of Phoenix and Alphesiboea; Apollodorous calls him a son of Cinyras and Metharme, but the generally accepted version is that Smyrna was impelled by Aphrodite to commit incest with her father, Thesias. With the help of her nurse Hippolyta she tricked Theias and became pregnant, but when Theias discovered the trick he pursued her with a knife… (Grimal, 1990)
