general panic
A widespread state of intense fear or alarm that can affect a group of people. This often results from a perceived threat, and can cause unreasoning or hysterical activity in the affected individuals. While panic is usually an acute response to danger, a “general panic” implies it has spread to a group. (Kremer, 2025)
