Founded Marrakesh in 1062 as capital of Almoravid kingdom. Meaning land of God or children of Kush. City layout and wall circuit at beginning of 12th century. Eleven miles long, similar to ancient Rome. Heavy Andalusian architectural influences. (Aras, 2022)
