Saints Cosmas and Damian

These saints were born brothers in Arabia, and studied in Syria. They were trained in medicine and served people for free. They were loved and respected by the people served for their charity and zeal for the Christian faith. During the persecution of Christians by Emperor Diocletian, they were apprehended by Lysias, the Governor of Cilicia, and after various torments were bound hand and foot and thrown into the sea. (Lives of the Saints). They are depicted in an eight century fresco from 705-707 in Chiesa di Santa Maria Antiqua in Rome. (Kremer, 2025) Photo from Rome, Italy, 2025.
