The right of a tenant to extend their lease term for a specified period of time at a predefined rental rate; the renewal option is typically outlined in the original lease and generally includes a date that the option must be executed before the offer expires; a lease can also have an auto-renewal option in which the lease term extends automatically on a specific date unless the tenant notifies the landlord of their intent to terminate the lease.
