Visit to Westphalia, Michigan

St. Mary Parish in Westphalia is one of the oldest Roman Catholic parishes in the state of Michigan.

A monument to Blessed Pauline von Mallinckrodt, foundress of the Sisters of Christian Charity is present. She founded it together with blind and cognitively impaired Margretchen who is also depicted in the sculpture.

A marker recognizes Rev. Fr. Anton Kopp who served as founding pastor of St. Mary’s Parish from 1836-1943. The Westphalia Historical Society placed the marker in 2011 to mark the 175th anniversary.
