The damping that naturally occurs as a building undergoes elastic or plastic deformation, as from the internal friction of a stressed material (hysteresis damping), from the friction between two moving parts (frictional damping), or from the viscous resistance of a fluid such as air (viscous damping). (Ching, 1995)
