Cain

Isaac Kremer/ July 3, 2024/ / 0 comments

The first son of Adam and Eve. Took his brother Abel into a field and killed him. God cursed Cain to be a wanderer of the earth and left a mark on him so he could be recognized. (Taylor, 2003) The first murder is represented by two altars. Upon one is fruit, and upon another an animal of the flock. The smoke of Cain’s altar swirls downward, while Abel’s altar ascends towards Heaven. A knotted club before Cain’s altar denotes the weapon with which he slew his brother. (Webber, 1927)
