Architectural Expressionism

A reactionary architectural style that sought to give prominence to the engineering and construction of a building over, and in place of, ornamentation. The structural components of the building would dictate the building’s aesthetic. Exposed or visible structural elements illustrated not only the inner workings of the edifice but also its industrial function. Interchangeable, prefabricated parts, exposed trusswork, and adaptable interior spaces were synonymous with this style. (Lubbell, 2018)
