Christ’s Church Cathedral began in 1835 as a parish church. William Thomas expanded with the addition of a stone chancel and nave extension in 1852-1854. The present nave was fashioned by Henry Langley, a specialist in church architecture noted for his mastery of High Victorian Gothic designs. Work was completed in 1876, a year after Christ’s Church was designated the cathedral of the newly form Diocese of Niagara.

In juxtaposition the Central Business District has large and extra-large modern buildings, and lacks the same vibrancy and detail per square foot of the neighboring commerical district.
Here detail, such as this pylon, needs to be on a much larger scale to stand out.
