Public Art – Con Ed Substation Mural, New York City, New York

Artist Richard Hass designed this mural on the side of the Con Ed Substation at Peck Slip in New York City. A large vacant lot in front gives a vantage point. Add to that the blank wall and some interesting older buildings that remain, this was enough to create the intended architectural effect. A sort of triumphal arch is depicted with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. This gains some added visual interest due to the fact that the actual Brooklyn Bridge is behind the building and mural. The other half of the composition is a nondescript factory building with hipped roof, dormers, and hand-painted signs.
