Born around 520 to a royal family in Thuringia, she became a devout Christian nun and immigrated to France. There she founded the Catholic Abbey of the Holy Cross in Poitiers in 552 AD. A portion of the true cross of Jesus Christ was held there. She is depicted with a book with a Greek cross and four dots. Two churches and a chapel in her honor were built by Benedictines in a 60 kilometer radius on the west coast of France during the 12th and 13th centuries. (Kremer, 2026)
