district
A geographically definable area, urban or rural, possessing a significant concentration, linkage, or continuity of sites, buildings, structures, or objects united historically or aesthetically by plan or physical development; may also comprise individual elements separated geographically but linked by association or history (Bucher, 1996). It is often used as a synonym for downtown or CBD. It also is associated with legally bounded areas such as Business Improvement District (BID), Special Improvement District (SID), etc. And it is used as a synonym for cluster as in “the theater district” (Milder, 2021).
