Appalachian Trail – Fox Gap, Pennsylvania

We picked an 8.5 mile journey from Fox Gap to Wind Gap. Wolf Rocks and an impressive vista were early on in the walk.

Starting off at the trail head we had plenty of everything that we needed for the hike ahead – food, water, energy, etc.

The trail as we approached Wolf Rocks became like a waterfall of stones. Picking the right footings was crucial and the potential for a very bad accident followed us for every step. This type of hiking requires full concentration at all times. There is little margin for error.

Once we reached the top of our ascent it was worth it to see this view.

A little further down the trail the signs directed us to a “Spring.” I’d characterize it as more of a puddle. Ed was adventurous, however, and used his filter to collect some water.

We found a spot off trail to bed down for the night. After hanging our bear bag and having a quick dinner, we retreated to the tent. Throughout the night there was rustling around us. At one point I swear that I could hear a bear growl as it was walking by.

The next morning we had a quick breakfast on the camp stove before continuing our descent where Chrissy and T were planning to join us. Since it was Father’s Day, after connecting we all went into downtown Easton for a nice meal. Overall it was a successful maiden voyage for me and Ed on the AT.
