Class of 1927
With the retirement of William C. Harton as principal in June 1955, Harry E. Williams became the new principal at Washington Gardner High School. Williams, a 1918 graduate of Albion High School, graduated from Albion College in1927. He taught in the Fenton school system from 1927 until 1930. In 1932, he returned to Albion where he taught civics and coached basketball. He obtained a master’s degree in political science in 1938 from the University of Michigan.
Williams served as recreation director from 1942 to 1948, following which he was appointed principal of the Junior High School. He served as principal of the high school until 1966, but continued working in the schools until 1973. Williams was actively involved in community affairs, and was a member of a long list of community organizations. He died of a heart attack while golfing at the Duck Lake Country Club on May 2, 1978 at the age of 74, and was buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall.
