Florence Swisher
    Died November 28, 1960

Florence Swisher was an instructor in Dramatics and English at Albion College from 1921 to 1928. Before she was part of Albion’s faculty, she earned her B.A. at Ohio Wesleyan University, her A.M. from Ohio State University, and her Ph.D. from Columbia. She also attended the Ohio Wesleyan School of Oratory and Sargent’s Dramatic School, and in addition, served as an instructor at Buena Vista College and Oxford College.

The Histrionic Club, forerunner of the Albion College Players, was founded under Swisher’s direction in 1921. She directed club members, theatre and public speaking students in many successful and popular plays during her time at Albion.

After leaving Albion, Swisher went on to teach at Miami University in Ohio. She was also the author of “Costumes and Stage Properties of the Early Popular Drama” and three one-act plays.

Florence Swisher died in Columbus, Ohio on November 28th, 1960 after a short illness.
