Raymond R. Sovjak, 85, of Albion, passed away Sunday October 5, 2003 atW.A. Foote Hospital, Jackson. Born September 6, 1918 in Burgettstown,PA, he was the son of Frank and Mary (Pendracky) Sovjak. His careerincluded 25 years with the Albion Police Department where he served asChief of Police and 18 years with the Calhoun County SheriffsDepartment. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police, Michigan Chiefof Police Association, and the Elks Lodge. Mr. Sovjak was a true sportsenthusiast and especially enjoyed fishing and football. On August 26,1944 he married Lydia (Brankovich) and she survives. Other survivorsinclude one son; Ronald (Carol) Sovjak of Jackson, one grandson; BrentSovjak of Battle Creek. Preceding him in death were two brothers Johnand Frank Sovjak. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, with ReverendDennis Dickson officiating. Interment will follow in RiversideCemetery, Albion. There will be no visitation.
