Biography
Mary Garfield was born June 29, 1868, and moved with her family to Albion at age two. She graduated from Albion High School in 1885 and from Albion College in 1894. She was the society editor of the Albion Evening Recorder in the 1920s. She also served as the postmistress in Marengo.
During World War I, Mary was the Liberty Bond chairman. When Sheldon Memorial Hospital opened in 1924, she was the first chairman of the hospital board. She was also an Alpha Tau Omega housemother. Leg fractures reduced her activity. She spent two years in retirement in Florida before passing away on April 22, 1960.
