Emil F. Holtz, 1886

After the resignation of Commodore P. Linn as president of Homestead Loan and Building Association in 1944, Emil F. Holtz, superintendent of the Albion Malleable Iron Company, was selected as the association’s third president, serving from 1944 to 1951. Holtz was born in Albion on August 2, 1886, and began working at the Malleable at the age of twelve. He became a foreman at the age of fifteen, and served as superintendent from 1942 until hisretirement in September 1945. He spent a total of forty-seven years at the Malleable.
Holtz was chief inspector at the Gale Manufacturing Company from 1947 until 1953, and later plant superintendent. He was a member of the local St. Paul’sLutheran Church, and served as president of the church congregation for several years. He was also an avid softball fan who managed and coached the Lutheran church softball team during the 1930s. He diedsuddenly on December 16, 1954, at the age of sixty-eight.
