Jerome Hines
Metropolitan Opera Singer
Died
Starr was able to establish a warm relationship with noted Metropolitan opera star Jerome Hines. A towering figure in stature as well as professional status, Hinesespecially delighted the boys with his dramatic renditions of favorite operatic arias. In addition, he was a man of strong religious convictions who often interspersed his musical selections with comments “off the top of my heart.” Although he made only two visits to the campus, few who heard him forgot either the man of his vocal prowess.
