Robert Geyer became sole owner of the Albion Lumber Company in December 1956, although his father remained withthe firm in an advisory capacity for several years. Born October 13, 1921, Robert Geyer was an engineer by trade, having been graduated from Michigan State University in 1943. He had worked with his father and grandfather in the construction trade for many years. In the 1960s it became apparent that a downtown lumber yard on a railroad siding was becoming obsolete. Robert decided to close the lumber business and convert the facilities into offices, stores, and apartments.
