Ellerby, Elizabeth Richmond Holmes, 1826
Died January 10, 1912
Elizabeth Richmond Holmes was born December 4, 1826, in Patrington, England, the youngest of seven children. She married Joseph Meek Ellerby in 1847.
In 1861, the Ellerbys decided to try their fortune in America, and settled in Albion for the rest of their lives. Her husband operated the stone mill in partnership with Jesse Crowell for eight years.
Elizabeth bore a daughter and two sons, one of whom died in infancy. They made their home on Porter Street opposite the First Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth’s husband died in 1905. At the time of her death on January 10, 1912, Elizabeth was 85 years old. Because one of her great-grandsons died a few hours after her, funeral services were held jointly.
