Dean, Mary, 1876

Mary Dean, sister of George Dean of Union SteelProducts, was born May 3, 1876, and came to Albion in 1891. She graduated from Albion High School and attended Albion College. She was a one of Michigan’s early telephone operators, becoming the third operator employed at the local exchange which operated jointly with the Railway Express office.
Mary was also a secretary at the GaleCompany, which made plows. Later she served as the purchasing agent for the State Industrial School in Adrian and for eight years was secretary for L.H. White, a prominent interior decorator in Detroit. In later years Mary also made her home in Petoskey and St. Petersburg, Florida.
