Ruth was always interested in dramatics and studied at the Bonstelle Theatre School in Detroit; she also studied ballet in New York. She played lead roles in a number of productions held in Albion. She taught tap dancing and ballet in Grand Ledge, Portland and Ionia.
Ruth worked with Camp Fire Girls and Cub Scout groups in Albion and Springport. She also served as playground leader at Dalrymple School and later became supervisor of all Albion playgrounds. She shared her husband’s interests in fishing and boating.
Ruth was a steward in the Albion United MethodistChurch, taught Sunday School there for eight years, and sang in the choir. Other organizations she belonged to were the United Methodist Women, Delta Gamma sorority, AAUW, the E.L.T. Club, the Hospital Service League, and the Albion Historical Society.
