Comstock, Elizabeth, 1832
Died 1898
Elizabeth was born in Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany, and immigrated to the Lyons, New York, area with her parents at the age of three. The family moved to Michigan a few years later, where she grew up.
Elizabeth attended Albion College and was a good student. She then taught at the East Ward School in Albion. She married Jude D. Comstock, a widower with four children, and had one child with him. Her stepchildren were William, who preceded her in death; Mrs. L. J. Wolcott and Mrs. E. Robinson of Albion; and Mrs. Mary Horner of Huron, South Dakota. Her own daughter, Mrs. George B. Simons, also taught for Albion Public Schools.
Elizabeth’s husband was twice arrested for abusing his family and was believed by some to be “off his base.” He committed suicide in 1891. Elizabeth died in 1898 after a lingering illness. She was described as having a strong character, and being loving and kind.
