Butt, Elsie Miller, 1897
Elsie was born in Peoria, Illinois, to Charles and Rose Miller. She attended the National College for Christian Workers and received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University. Elsie married the Rev. Luther Butt in 1947, becoming the stepmother to three grown children. After her husband died in 1953, Elsie came to Albion in 1954 as the new religious educator for the First Methodist Church, and to teach a course in religious studies at Albion College. At that time, the church was still in its location on Erie Street. In 1958, she moved with the church to its present location on Michigan Avenue. Elsie supervised many students who taught in church school programs at several area churches. She continued to live in Albion until 1985, at which time she moved to Port Huron to be near one of her stepsons.
