Biographical Description
Brautigam assumed his duties as superintendent on July 1, 1960, replacing acting superintendent John Schuring. Brautigam had come to Albion from Dowagiac, where he had been a superintendent for six years. A 1936 graduate of AdrianCollege, he had been principal at Union High School for ten years before serving as superintendent at Vermontville, Belding, and Dowagiac.

Brautigam received his masters degree from the University of Michigan in 1941, and a doctorate in education from Michigan State University in 1959. He resigned as superintendent of the Albion schools in 1969 to become associate professor of higher education at Michigan State University. Replacing Brautigam on Septemeber 1, 1969 was James C. Lantz.
