Maureen Balke

Soprano Maureen Balke holds performance credits in recital, opera and oratorio thoughout the Midwest and in national and international forums. A specialist in art song, she has performed in the Aston Magna Academy on Shubert (NEH Fellowship), the International Festival of Art Song, and other Lieder festicals, and has earned high marks in master classes with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Gerhard Husch, Calton Baldwin and Martin Katz. She has earned degrees in German and in voice with doctoral work including songs of Hoseph Marx and Anthony Taffs. Her long-standing interest in songs of Marx began with voice teacher Lorna Warfield, who studied in Vienna at the time of Marx’s early success. She is a member of the Music Department at Albion College in Albion, Michigan, and has collaborated with pianist Narciso Solero in recital for over ten years.
