Class of 1972

Clay Baitman, a 1972 graduate of Albion College is the Acting Chief of the Albion Fire Department. This public safety department has six firemen per shift on duty around the clock, including the Assistant Fire Chief. The equipment available to these employees includes 3 “engine pumpers” (two will pump 1,000 gallons of water per minute and one will pump 1,500 gallons per minute), and an “aerial ladder” truck. The two newest pieces of equipment are a 1,500 gallon per minute pumper costing $52,000, and due to be delivered in 1976 is a $128,000 aerial ladder truck. The Department is pleased to report major advances during the past year including: 1) delivery of a new “engine pumper,” 2) ordering of a new “aerial ladder” truck, 3) accurate analysis of water supply and fire hydrant capacity throughout the city and 4) a successful start of a building familiarization program performed by “on-duty” firefighters.

In the first 10 months of 1975, the department responded to 148 fire calls.
