Student Army Training Corps

    Disbanded

During World War I, the campus of Albion College was transformed into an army military base. The Student Army Training Corps was formed in 1917 to prepare Albion College students for military service. Student soldiers are shown marching on the college campus in this 1918 photograph, with the Epworth Building in the background.

The Albion College Student Army Training Corps celebrates the supposed end of World War I by leading an impromptu parade in downtown Albion on November 9, 1918. The celebration was premature however, as the Armistice was not officially signed until November 11. November 9, 1918 has been dubbed by historians as the “False Armistice Day.
