Board of Review
Purpose: Revising and correcting property assessments and hearing hardship appeals.
Established: Charter Section 10.6 and MCL Section 211.29 provide for a Board of Review with identical qualifications. All appointees must have the qualifications of an elector of the City and are taxpayers. They are four in number and the Mayor of the City, if the Mayor can not serve, a Councilperson designated by the Council, may serve as the fifth member.
Membership: Four taxpayers of the City, Mayor, Assessor (nonvoting clerk). Appointed by the Mayor with confirmation of City Council.
Term: Four years, beginning on January 1
Meetings: 9 a.m. on the third Monday of March. Other dates as required by law (MCL 211.53B), Tuesday following the third Monday in July and Tuesday following the second Monday in December
Compensation: $75 per day
