604 Austin Avenue
Polka parties were held on Saturday nights at Dubina’s Tavern and Dance Hall at 604 Austin Avenue during the 1930s and 1940s. The Dance Hall sign in the back states “DINE, DRINK, DANCE.” Mike (1886-1959) and Sophia (1878-1972) Dubina were the first immigrants to open a grocery store on the “west end” in 1916. They also operated a boarding house for Albion Malleable Iron Company workers. This photo was taken in 1939. (Photo courtesy Ruth [Romanchuk] Dean.)
