Vera Buck was born in May of 1898, in Wichita, Kansas. She received her A.B. in 1918, majoring in history and languages; her M.A. in 1926 in romance languages; and her Ph.D. in 1933 from the State University of Iowa. She taught in a number of institutions before coming to Albion College in 1934, where she taught French and Spanish.

Vera resigned her position in 1941 to marry Dr. Royal Hall, a professor of history at Albion College. She returned to part-time teaching in 1943, retiring with her husband in 1953. She spent many summers in Bay View, Michigan, where she taught at the Albion College summer school. Vera died on July 19, 1977.
